Future of iMacs
Mar 8th, 2007 by AndieCZ
Yesterday, I found on AppleInsider the news from the talks with analysts. Pity, pity, it looks like Apple TV and iPhone will be the products of the future growth for Apple.
Apple forgets about its stable basis of customers and their iMacs, MacBooks and other stuff. Maybe I am wrong and Apple prepares announcement of new products during the launch of new version of Mac OS X, but I cannot believe that.
There were no comments about computers and quite unluckily, there was almost nothing told about iPods. Right now, iPods are the source of the growth of Apple and computers are the stable basis, which function as a real back-up for Apple, when you read their financial results carefully.
But Apple is not investing to much to the future development of their basis. In case of failing iPhone on the market as it can happen, Apple will be in danger again. It would be no first time, when the revolutionary product was not accepted by the large customer base. And iPhone will definitely need a large customer base to be a real success story for Apple.
Maybe, they are preparing new products to come with Mac OS X Leopard /really looking forward to seeing it in action/. But waiting for Mac OS X Leopard starts to be a torture for me. I hope, this will not be the same story as Microsoft Vista was. It is still announced as spring 2007, so the deadline for the release of the new system is 21st June 2007. And I personally believe it will be some late June, when the system will be released to public.
But, for Apple it is typical to inform media “informally†about the new products, which are in the preparation, but right now – it is a silent season for all of us. There was a silent processor update for all the computers, but nothing more. It is said, there will be a new MacBook Pro with the LED backlight, but who knows when.
Many people say, there will be a huge update of all the products line, when Adobe will finally announce and release its Adobe Creative Suite 3. But should be Apple waiting for just one software package? I know Adobe and Apple – they are like a brother and a sister, but Adobe has definitely more significant income from the Windows platform than from Mac OS X platform, which is kept as a “melancholy partnership†from the history. So, there is no reason for Apple to wait for Adobe CS3 to come to the market.
I believe, Apple is carefully analyzing Microsoft Vista and its new approach of user interface to take the best of the system and to add some “killer feature†to the Mac OS X Leopard. The Time Machine is nice, but I would not take it as the best “killer feature†for me. I know how to make a back up of the system and most users do not produce one document, which is enhanced on a daily basis. So, me personally, I do not need to return to the historical data.
Me, personally, I wish all the best to Apple, specifically to iPhone and Apple TV. But, I also wish to Apple not to forget about computers and iPods as they need their own upgrades as well. I am a guy, who needs its computer and I will rely on Apple, that it will offer me a suitable model, when the time for the computer replacement will come.
To conclude – Apple has to innovate and quickly introduce new products to the market not to loose its position. iPod needs its update first, iMacs should quickly follow then. What is your opinion?
I thought the new OS will come at the end of march…?
“But Apple is not investing to much to the future development of their basis”
How would you know, you have some inside info? Didn’t think so. And the Intel transition was not an investment for the future?
“But, for Apple it is typical to inform media “informally†about the new products, which are in the preparation”
Huh, when did Apple inform the press? They will only give a *few* vague hints about *some* of the things that are coming or not coming in the near future. Like the comments Apple made about the rumored PowerBook G5, it was deemed “the mother of all thermal challenges.” Translation: don’t hold your breath on this one. Or the “We’re not sitting around doing nothing” about cell phones. Translation: we’re working on it. These statements were made during conference calls with financial analysts.
This year Apple will launch AppleTV, the iPhone, a new version of Mac OS X, after last year’s transition the hardware will be revised as usual. New iPods should be ready for the holiday season, the most important quarter for consumer electronics. The iPod may be the main source of growth for Apple but the PC business is not in disarray, it’s growing all right. Do you seriously think they will somehow ‘forget’ about the upcoming upgrades? Jobs woke up last Monday and felt a disturbance in the Force: “OH NOES!!!1! We completely forgot to update our stuff!”
“I believe, Apple is carefully analyzing Microsoft Vista and its new approach of user interface to take the best of the system and to add some “killer feature†to the Mac OS X Leopard.”
This is not how development works. Apple is currently implementing features, but the feature set was decided last year. It’s far too late to analyze a competing product to add more new features haphazardly and for no good reason.
