I have found a very interesting article about Google Desktop for Mac from a developer using Mac OS X and he made quite a huge research of the Google Desktop.
His results are really amazing and I am a bit confused as I am a common user. He did find, that the application is communicating with Google, even when you select not to send any usage and non-personal statistics to Google.
Every 30 minutes it tries to contact some Google server. Oh, I am not really lucky about this issue, but I hope, Google will publish any article about the content of the communication.
Worse for me is installation of kernel extension and running as a root user. As I was previously working on Linux, I know the basic rules - “Do not install any kernel extension, when you are not sure you really need it†and “Never run as a root user, when you do not know what it is about.†What I really love on Mac OS X, it is its stability and its focus on my own security. That I can be almost sure, I can browse the network, do my internet banking and I do not have to be worried about my money sent for a trip around the Globe.
So, I am really looking to seeing the explanation from Google as I believe, they will provide Apple community with the answers – as Google Desktop is really an excellent software and tool.

Really funny this article came up, as I have Google Search disabled, with no indexing and NOT to start up when I login, but It tried to connect to a server … I denied it the right (I used Little Snitch)
