NeoOffice, Applications

Several weeks with NeoOffice and still alive

04.28.07 | 1 Comment

Not just I am still alive. I can work as well. After several weeks of a small pain, mainly with the user interface and completely different logics from Mac OS X, I can really proudly say – your personal performance and ability to reach goals will not be affected, when you transfer yourself from Microsoft Office for Mac to NeoOffice suite.

In the beginning – my learning curve was pretty slow. The look and feel of the application was really different for my tasty eyes. Apple has excellent guidelines for programming of the applications and NeoOffice is not definitely following them fully. Their Open and Save documents windows are not compliant with the standard policy and I still hate them. When I want to open the document, it is always very small window, where I do not see the full word “Documents”. But I am used to use it.

The speed is the issue, I am ok with right now. For documents, the application is responsive quickly and with NeoOffice Draw – it is fun sometimes to see the entire object to be redrawing. But by reducing the details during the creation of the presentation can improve the speed of application very much. I can fully recommend reducing all the details visible on the screen to the real acceptable minimum and you will enjoy the Application.

Right now – I produce everything in NeoOffice, including the spreadsheet, where I know, what I can expect from it and I know, how the things have to be done. And what is really great – I can import and export MS Office documents and the others are able to open them without errors.
