I like this small cube delivered by Apple to your home. But, there was an interesting article on NetMania (sorry guys, the article is in Czech) server about the future of Mac Mini.
I do not own Mac Mini as I have iMac computer on my table. But honestly, this piece of hardware I really like. Very clean design and very competitive price. Taking into account a lot of tutorials how to upgrade your Mac Mini – it is really an excellent piece of hardware.
Right now, Mac Mini is the only Mac with Intel processor Core Duo. The other models have at least Core2Duo processor, which brings a huge performance advantage to these models. And when you look for the rumors, nothing to be heard about Mac Mini.

The article is clearly stating, that Mac Mini is not a model, which is loved by Apple. This model was brought to the Sun just because of the pressure from Apple shareholders. The shareholders wanted to see a cheap Mac model, which could make the switch from PC more easily for the users. It makes sense, as when you have a PC, you own a monitor, keyboard and mouse as well. And you need to make a change just with your “real†computer. The other reason for not upgrading Mac Mini can be a lot of work with iPhone and other models of Macs. They all need some upgrade as they stay the same almost for a year.
What do you think? Will be Mac Mini updated?

The shareholders are right. It’s what will be my intro to the big switch.
I am not a switcher but a long-time Mac user but I purchased one of these as well as a home/small-business file server. I can’t afford a Xserve right now and the Mini does exactly what I need to keep my home network running well. I think there are a lot of small networks in homes now and the Mini serves this market perfectly as a headless server device.
My mother just got one of these for mothers day, and she could not be any happier. We are now a 100% mac household.
