When you create any kind of the website, you definitely need to have Apache, mySQL and PHP installed on your computer. With Mac OS X you can take a long journey to install the components separately, but this never worked for me.

MAMP is an excellent alternative. All the “console” based applications receive graphical interface and MAMP will help you to set up everything.

When you plan to develop a website, I can fully recommend MAMP to be the most helpful tool.
