Apple announced to the public, that the release of the new version of Mac OS X Leopard will be postponed by several months. It was not such a big news to the public as the signs of the late delivery were known for some time. The company announced, that it needs to support iPhone OS X operating system and Mac OS X Leopard must have to wait for several months.
The Apple community was disappointed and many rumors appeared about Apple slowly abandoning Mac OS X to become just a leader in the consumer goods industry. Honestly, Apple can make this step, but it would completely destroy its position on the market. Even in the moment, when the company had difficult times, the company had one advantage – its community.

The Apple community was the main reason to make the transition from Motorola processors to PowerPC processors so smooth to enable everyone in the community to continue in his/her work. And the transition to Intel was prepared the same way again. The relationship of Apple and the Apple community is about the trust. The users trust the company, that the company will not abandon them.
Do not forget, that Apple changed the processors in computers during last year – and did you notice any major issue? Can you imagine Microsoft to migrate users from Intel to any other platform? Apple Community wants Apple to produce computers they like and they buy. No any other computer producer can be so sure of its customers to upgrade to new models, when they are released to the market.
Apple produce a lot of profit on iPods, but computer producing brings stable profit to Apple and the computers are the basis for the community to be kept around the company. So, the delay in the development of the new version of Mac OS X Leopard is just because iPhone is a strategic project of the day as Mac OS X Leopard is really an upgrade.
Just have a look at Mac OS X Tiger and “new†Microsoft Vista. What features of Microsoft Vista do you miss in Mac OS X Tiger? On the market, Mac OS X Tiger is really an operating system able to compete successfully. This is a real sign of the innovation rate of Apple as you can see, that the competition is really just implementing features you can enjoy for several months. And Mac OS X Leopard will just bring some new killer features to make the competition even more tough.
And from marketing point of view – when you can see all that “Get a Mac†adverts – would you announce then, that you will abandon that great operating system? What would be the reaction of the Apple community? Would you trust to such a company?
