Anyone over 25 must remember this application. Norton Commander was born on MS DOS. That old MS DOS, which was not able to run in graphics mode. But, Norton Commander is still one of the best applications to handle your files on hard drives.
Norton Commander has one of the best solutions for manipulation with files. It has two simple windows and all the activities are done from one window to the second one and vice versa. So far, no other solution is better. This kind of user control is used till nowadays.
In case, you are looking for a better file manager than Finder (which is not that hard to find one), you can easily use muCommander on Mac OS X. muCommander is a multi platform file manager and it has its version for Mac OS X as well.
muCommander looks exactly as Norton Commander, just using the benefits of graphical user interface. As the application is written in Java, you can choose the style to be used, but honestly – native Mac OS X look is the best option.

You can connect to local drives or you can use a lot of network protocols so transferring of files is really an easy task. And as a small benefit – the icon can be also in the System Tray and muCommander is Growl ready application to send you notifications.
