When we can expect a major update of iPod
May 31st, 2007 by AndieCZ
As iPod was not updated for more than one year, it is expected that Apple will bring a major update of iPod soon. The expected updates are usually about adding WI-FI support to the device and allowing the users to communicate with iPod using wireless connection. Hopefully, without the limitations applied in Zune by Microsoft.
Microsoft announced one million pieces of Zune sold. Compared with Apple´s iPod sales results, it can be seen as a minor issue for Apple, but when comparing the results of iPod in the beginning of its product life, the results of Microsoft are not that bad. To sell one million Zune gadgets within several months – other producers would be more than happy for such amazing numbers.

Apple should carefully watch the story of Playstation and Xbox. Playstation was dominant on the market, but with the generation update, which was done better at Microsoft’s offices, the dominance of Playstation 3 is over. In need to choose, I would prefer Xbox right now.
The real need for iPod update evolves quickly. Apple has nothing new to communicate as a new advantage in the number. The iPod story is very similar to the story of Sergey Bubka. He was famous in athletics, with many world records. Just because he knew, he must do just small steps ahead and no more. Just one single centimeter added with every world record.
Microsoft introduced advanced gadget to the market, heavily inspired by Apple iPod. This is a disadvantage for Zune. Even in case you present it as a “revolution†it will be always seen as a “pretty good copy.†Zune´s features are really beating the same iPod model, but as a “copy†they need to offer more. But, Zune is expected to be updated and Apple could be the looser of the game.
I hope to see the iPod update very soon.
